KEVIN BENNETT
Kevin Bennett, well-respected indigenous singer/songwriter with Sydney roots band The Flood, CMAA Gold Guitar winner and Aria nominee in 2006 (with The Flood for Best Group) and 2011(with Kasey Chambers for Vocal Collaboration), writes relevant, contemporary Australian music containing elements of Blues, Rock, Folk and Country - telling stories of where he's from and where he might be going, his past and his future………..he sings his life.
In 2005, after 25 years in the music business, it was confirmed through a family search, that KB had Aboriginal heritage and he was from the Kamilaroi Tribe of Northern NSW. Since then, he has been involved in several Indigenous songwriting, music and mentoring projects with Tamworth Regional Council, APRA (as an Indigenous Ambassador) and more recently with The Jimmy Little Foundation - travelling to remote communities spreading Uncle Jimmy's mantra 'Good tucker, healthy life'!
As part of his musical life, Kevin also mentors aspiring songwriters at the CMAA Country Music Academy in Tamworth every January, and at The Dag Sheepstation Writers' Retreat at Nundle in July……this is both rewarding, inspiring and fun, watching and listening to new writers honing their craft and charting their progress through these truly amazing courses.
So, 9 acclaimed albums and countless 'live' appearances later, KB joined forces in 2016 with Lyn Bowtell and Felicity Urquhart and recorded their self-titled country/roots debut album, full of great songs and a transcendental-like harmony blend, which has taken the Aria and CMC charts by storm and picked up 2 more Golden Guitars for Group Of The Year, and Alternative Country Album Of The Year at the 2017 Awards! So whether it's solo, with The Flood and Bennett, Bowtell & Urquhart, KB is still making music that needs to be heard.
